DIBt
certification

Since 2020, we have had the design approval - DIBt: Z-74.91-197 - and thus enable our customers to demonstrably fulfil all aspects of the legal requirements with regard to water protection and safe system operation.

The idea
In 2010 SCHERZER Umwelttechnik GmbH started looking into DIBt type approval due to repeated customer requests for an approved product meeting the requirements of the Water Resources Act. A test certificate was initially obtained in June 2011 through amtec Messtechnischer Service GmbH to prove a high level of tightness based on the TA Luft VDI 2440 German Engineering Association guideline relating to air quality control.

In the next development step, Scherzer Umwelttechnik expanded its product portfolio with the development of an automated A.S.K. The automated A.S.K. ensures protection against contaminated liquids entering the water drainage systems thanks to central control enabling several valves to be operated simultaneously with a faster response time.

Within the scope of a field test in cooperation with a customer, extensive experience was gathered in different areas of application with different types of waste water contamination and this was incorporated into the development and improvement of the product.

The newly developed automated protection system was then tested in 2014 by a water management expert certified according to the Ordinance on Installations for the Handling of Substances Hazardous to Water (VAwS) who confirmed compliance with zero loss requirements.

Spurred on by this success, the next goal was type approval. However, initial research and information gave way to disillusionment when it became clear that this would be an extremely time-consuming process.

The journey
Nonetheless, customer requests during maintenance, repair and inspection work and the commitment to continuous improvement led us to pursue our goal of obtaining approval.

Following the amendments to the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health in 2015 and the standardisation of the Water Resources Act at federal level in 2017, we started to systematically work towards our goal of obtaining type approval for our mechanical and automated A.S.K. products, which had proven themselves over many years of reliable operation.

We contacted the DIBt and defined specific requirements, and this was followed by development, implementation and documentation of the input needed for the application. Internal processes were analysed and modified. A functional presentation of the A.S.K. product group was given to MFPA Leipzig GmbH as a testing, monitoring and certification body for building materials, building products and building systems.

Certification
The A.S.K. is used in plants for the filling and transfer of water-polluting substances as part of a retention system for certain water-polluting liquids and load levels as found in chemical and petrochemical storage, filling and handling plants.

On 12 August 2020 the A.S.K. from SCHERZER Umwelttechnik GmbH were granted type approval DIBt: Z-74.91-197. This enables our business partners to demonstrably fulfil legal requirements with regard to water protection, safe plant operation and all aspects of the state-of-the-art risk reduction measures that operators must meet within the scope of functional safety.
